[Overview]
Project Henry is a 2D side-scrolling shooter in which you fight an army of wolves to keep them inside the laboratory where you are trapped. This is the beginning of its development log. Stay tuned!
[Plans for the week]
- (DONE) Make the Gun Module.
- (DONE) Attach the Gun Module to the muzzle at the Spine bone’s position.
- (DONE) Animating Henry RunnIng.
- Prototyping enemies (or wolves!).

So far, so good!
This is Henry, the main character of the game. Playing as Henry, the player fights the wolves as they try to escape the laboratory where he is trapped. Why is he stuck in the laboratory, and who is behind the wolves? As the player fights his way forward, the mysteries begin to unravel.
I have been developing this game for about a month. The original idea was to give Henry two modes—Berserker and Shooter—that could be switched dynamically. As a Berserker, Henry can move quickly and punch the wolves; as a Shooter, he can morph into a slime and spray them with his beloved M3 Grease Gun.
A Change of Direction…
As an FPS fan who does not often play “punching games,” I came up with an idea: would it be possible to bring the fun of FPS games into a side-scroller? I am trying to drop the Berserker mode and have human Henry (not the slime!) hold a gun as his only way of attacking the wolves. I will start prototyping the idea.

Henry with a Gun
I finished the work that lets Henry fire his submachine gun.
- All the artworks are drawn & animated by human artist (which is MEEEEE!). I animated Henry idling and running.
- I made a Gun Module that can cast and render a ray that acts as a bullet. Then I aligned the gun’s direction with the mouse position, using basic trigonometry. (Adding the recoil that pushes the bullet trace away from the mouse position was fun!)
- The VFX renderer was revised as well, so the muzzle flash appears in the right spot.
- Understanding the component that renders the Spine animation—which was produced by AI—was tricky, but I’m glad it went okay. The difficult part was mixing animations: for example, playing the idle animation while Henry’s right arm aims at the mouse.
I’m quite satisfied with the current result.
Now I need some enemies for Henry to fight with.
Stay tuned!
